Our Equine Program, with Carm and Eleven Eleven is an incursion which involves educators from KIDS Foundation, along with an equine specialist, taking miniature ponies into centres, allowing children to learn about horses and how they (the children) can interact and remain safe in their presence.
The aim of this equine based program is linked closely with our SeeMore Carm and SeeMore Kindness books, both which feature a horse as a main character. We hope to help children develop an awareness of emotional communication. It is believed that being in close proximity to a horse can reduce our heart rate, reduce blood pressure, reduce the amount of cortisol (stress hormones) and it can also cause the feel-good endorphins to increase in us. Horses are very sensitive to emotional and verbal cues. It also demonstrates the role in which animals, in particular horses, can play in caring for our mental and emotional health and wellbeing.
During the visit, to ensure the quality of the interactions that the children have with both the educators and also the ponies, we adapt the program on a needs basis and structure the experience accordingly to suit the children.
This session includes a class set of take home activity books for the children, A4 book SeeMore and Carm, A4 book and poster SeeMore Kindness for the centre as well as teaching resources with suggested follow up activities.
