Survivor story
Matty Thiele was just three when he was trapped in a burning car as his horrified mother watched, back in April 1999. Matt has the cheekiest smile that couldn’t be taken away, even on the day that was to change their lives forever. Doctors suggested to Matt’s parents that they turn off his life support. They didn’t.
I was three at the time of the car fire but have no memory of it. The doctors had basically given up on me, they didn’t think I would make it. They told my parents that if I got through and survived this, my quality of life would not be good. They even suggested to my Mum and Dad, they turn the life support off. When I found the KIDS Foundation, my life changed.
