Why am I fundraising

Hello, my name is Nellie Tuddenham. I’m excited to be riding in Tour d’Horse 2026. This incredible ride takes place over six days, across challenging terrain in the Hunter Valley, with riders spending up to six hours a day on horseback. It’s tough, but it’s also unforgettable. This ride is especially meaningful to me because I’m riding in honour of my baby sister, Bella, who passed away in 2021 after fighting Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Even though her life was very short, Bella has had an enormous impact. After Bella’s funeral, I asked my mum and nan to go horse riding with me. That day brought us unexpected healing and comfort. Because of that experience, my nan — Susie O’Neill, Founder and CEO of the KIDS Foundation — introduced equine assisted learning into the KIDS Foundation’s programs. That decision helped lead to the creation of Tour d’Horse. In 2025, I was one of 100 riders who completed Tour d’Horse. Riding through the mountains, mustering cattle, and caring for retired racehorses was challenging, emotional, and incredibly special. I was proud to raise $45,000, helping the KIDS Foundation exceed its $1 million fundraising goal. Now, I’m back in the saddle for Tour d’Horse 2026, and this year I’m aiming to raise $50,000. These funds will go towards: Sending children and families living with SMA to KIDS Foundation recovery camps. Supporting children and families recovering from trauma. Helping more kids experience healing, confidence, and connection. I ride because I love horses, but more importantly, I ride because it feels good to be able to do something for others — and to keep my sister’s memory alive in a positive way.
