TANGO is a personal development and leadership project designed to assist young people with life-changing injuries to find direction in their lives.
Vision
Every young survivor with life-changing injuries that participates in the TANGO program gains new skills that result in new opportunities and an improved quality of life.
Mission
To promote tolerance, acceptance, leadership and empowerment, via the TANGO program.
Objective
The TANGO program aims to help young survivors with life-changing injuries re-evaluate their lives and facilitate programs that deliver opportunities for new skill development, goal setting, communication, understanding and emotional support. The aim is quality of life beyond survival.
The holistic nature of the TANGO Program ensures young people learn to manage their environment and the new opportunities experienced through the program are transferable throughout their lives, in school, work and life.
Goals
Provide programs and support for survivors with life-changing injuries to achieve a sense of purpose and direction.
Deliver personal development, leadership and goal setting programs designed to empower young people with changed body image and function.
Introduce young people to new school and career opportunities in supportive environments.
Deliver programs that promote health and fitness taking into consideration the effects of the injury sustained by the individual.
Source new leisure time and sporting activities for individuals that are physically challenged.
Provide rehabilitation services and equipment to aid the recovery of individual children that require tools to achieve new goals.
Services
Counselling Service for families: Full time employed councillor trained in trauma counseling based in the head office.
Website with chat line: Website containing the latest information on new technologies and treatments related to burn and injury management.
TANGO NEWS: A half yearly newsletter online for participants that have email and printed & sent to others, containing stories, information on up and coming activities, events, workshops and camps.
TANGO Workshops: Personal development state based workshops for young people with life changing injuries.
Traineeships and tuition: Training programs for young people with life changing injuries providing opportunities for careers, sport and leisure activities.
Camp TANGO: Summer and Winter camp for young people with life changing injuries.
School Presentation: Young people with life-changing injuries guest speaking at secondary schools on risks that resulted in changing their lives.
TANGO Award: An award presented to a young person in the TANGO program that through their achievements has been a true inspiration to others.
Outcomes
- Expansion of the TANGO Program

- Increased self-esteem of individuals with changed body image and function.

- Increased funds for the KIDS Foundation
The impact of the TANGO project is three fold. TANGO impacts on the participants by enhancing self-esteem and developing leadership and empowerment. TANGO impacts on their immediate family as well as members of the local community by promoting tolerance and acceptance.
