Safety Club

Did you know that more children die from injury than of cancer, asthma and infectious diseases combined? (Kidsafe 2000)
The Safety Club is a safety education program delivered through primary schools which seeks to reduce child injuries and death.
- Every day in Australia, 5,000 children are injured and 100 hospitalised (Australian Bureau of Statistics data from Research Centre for Injury Studies, Flinders University).
- Each year around 300 Australian children are killed and 60,000 are hospitalised due to unintentional injury (kidsafe, W.A. 2000).
- A significant proportion of injuries sustained by children and adolescents happen at school (Monash University Accident Research Centre, Hazard Edition 53).
The Safety Club plays a vital role in reducing unintentional injuries because “whether intentional or accidental, most physical injuries can be prevented by identifying their cause and removing these, or reducing people’s exposure to them” (The National injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Plan 2004 – 2014, Canberra NPHP).
